I adjusted my training schedule slightly for LVNH, so that I have time for two 20-milers; since I ran one of the two last Saturday, today was a glorious cutback week at 12.
All week long, I had been exhausted and not sleeping terribly well, to the point that I was beginning to worry I might be coming down with a cold. I was grateful for the decreased mileage. I headed out cautiously for a 9-mile lap around the Esplanade before stopping back home to change shoes (still breaking in the new Frees) and pick up Jack.
We headed out for another 3.1 – and these last few were far more enjoyable than the first nine. Excellent company aside, the very rare occasions on which I convince Jack to head out with me sans bike have some extra perks.
First, he refuses to take it easy, ever; a characteristic that can be infuriating during, say, games of Monopoly or Scrabble, makes him an excellent running partner when I’m nearing the end of my 12 miles and feeling a wee bit lazy.
Also, no catcalls with Jack by my side. Not one. Awesome.
Dear Jack: you may need to run with me more often. Love, Kate.
